Overview: Trek Education
Inc., the nonprofit I founded in 2002, delivered NI as
it's first technology service product. What is NI? NI is an
interactive, educational web site that allows students to
access information on over 200 countries around the globe.
Learning activities are structured around teacher created
challenges that address National Standards in mathematics
and social studies for students in grades six through twelve.
The challenges encourage students to view the world from a
unique perspective, allowing them to gain a better understanding
about the diversity in our world. The project-based challenges
are complex and appropriate for collaborative work. In completing
the challenges, students can query the Nation Investigation
database and access information on 50 different indictors
related to health, education, population, employment, media
and more! Data from the student queries is presented in tables
and graphs to address various learning styles. Frequently
challenges will require that students access other web sites
from our resources page allowing them to gain important researching
skills in this information age.
Technology: Windows 2000, MS Access database, Coldfusion,
HTML, Javascript.
